5 Representation, BCP and Community Action Plan

5.1 Steve Pearce reported that BCP working group is satisfied that the best way to ensure commitment of strategic service providers is to prepare a Community Action Plan with BCC’s Sustainable City Team. Working group pleased with progress to date.
5.2 It is expected that over the next few months the working group will call on other members of BCP and outside agencies to feed into process. Recognise need to ensure wide range of views gathered and analysed. First step is the questionnaire circulated with the minutes. Thanks to Lynda Harris for producing it.
5.3 Associated with this is growing recognition that BCP needs to be as representative of Brislington as possible. We should consider broadening BCP membership. Consider GPs, representation from all schools, outreach workers.
5.4 Ann Stobbs asked about the relationship between the CAP and the Lifelong Learning Community Development Plan. It became apparent that these two processes have not yet joined up. It was agreed that BCP and the Lifelong Learning group share research activities and outputs. (Action: BCP working group and Ann Stobbs)

6 Project Updates

6.1 Respect
6.1.1 Trampoline sessions have been very successful. 6 X 1.5hr sessions on Tuesday evenings, October-November. Average of 15 young people attending, working for badges.
6.1.2 Costs: instructor (£150), youth worker (£105). Offset against 50p charge per person.
6.1.3 During first 2 weeks a group of young people turned up wanting to use Wicklea as open access. When told by youth worker they could only participate in trampoline sessions, the young people became rude and had to be ejected. When this happened a second time they left without incident.
6.1.4 DJ project runs from 22 Nov for 6 weeks. 5 volunteers will teach young people to mix records and set up equipment. 2 tutors have so far been CRB checked and the others who have not yet are not allowed unsupervised contact with young people.
6.1.5 Costs: £8.75/hr salary of youth worker (2-3 hrs per session). Respect has offered to pay volunteer’s travel and childcare expenses. Participants charged 50p per session.
6.1.6 During first session 23 young people turned up, too many for the scope of the session. Some young people became bored and caused trouble, being abusive to teachers and causing damage in boys toilet and storeroom behind. Sessions will now be limited to 10 young people, maximum. Second session more successful.
