2. Finance

3. Street based Workers

Kay and Tim were welcomed to the meeting. They have begun their walkabouts and some issues have come up:

a) By 10.30pm on a Friday night there are often groups of drunk young people outside Wicklea. As the door does not immediately close there are security issues with Kay and Tim finishing their sessions there. Agreed they will finish at Lazer instead.
b) Many of the YP they meet on a Friday night are looking for something to do there and then. Trevor to investigate opening Wicklea for youth activities on Fridays. David P to chase up his application to BCC YPS for a fulltime youth worker at Wicklea.
c) Kay and Tim to attend next Sexual Health Training to be able to give out condoms.
d) Skate park session to be organised in the Easter holidays. Tim & Kay to liaise with Tracey & Dave and YP at Lazer re BYCA funding.
e) Tracey to pass on Lisa Bailey’s phone no to Tim & Kay so she can go on a walkabout with them at the end of Jan. This would also be a good opportunity to discuss setting up a joint meeting between all the Brislington youth workers re partnership working.
f) Agreed that Kay & Tim will attend First Aid Training at a cost of £85 each.
g) Heather to organise a mailout to all other local youth organisations, eg Sea Cadets etc asking for leaflets for the detached team to hand out. Also to invite them to join our mailing list and mention BCP website forum.
h) Heather to email Respect logo to Trevor for Young Bristol to produce some business cards with Kay & Tim’s phone nos and the BCP website.

As yet there has been no success recruiting the 3rd worker through internal methods. David P to send further adverts to VOSCUR and other cheap outlets.

4. Projects

Football Project

Funding application to the Foundation for Sport and the Arts was unsuccessful but they referred Respect to the Football foundation instead. However Young Bristol are intending to make a large capital bid to them for improving the outside court. Steve to apply to Quartet's Express Programme and Mall Foundation Fund instead (closing date 31st Jan).

Ann Stobbs has pledged £100 from BEC to meet immediate costs – Heather to ask her to liaise with Zoe and Theresa.

Local Community Learning Action Group (CLAG - worker Jo Weenik) are interested in funding the project by paying for the coaches to train local volunteers with few qualifications. The YP will then indirectly benefit. Heather to put the football coaches in touch with Jo to check they meet the CLAG criteria. CLAG can also pay for CRB checks for the volunteers. At least 6 volunteers with under Level 2 qualifications (less than 5 GCSEs Grade A-C) will be needed for the course to run. CLAG can advertise for volunteers through BEC, the BCP website and mailings, Wicklea youth club, local newsletters etc. Heather will also chase up John’s connections with Brislington football club.

Healthy Living/Lifestyles Training
David P to chase up the application to the Local Network fund for accredited training for YP on healthy living.

5. Any Other Business

David and Theresa attended a meeting at which Les Compton, Deputy Head of YPS, said they have applied to a Home Office fund for increasing youth work in dispersal order areas for funds to open Wicklea 2 more nights a week. There is another meeting on Jan 18th – David and Theresa to attend.

Bristol YMCA is being "mothballed" rather than completely closing down so David P will only be working one day per week. However he will still be involved with Respect.

The voice recorder was stolen after the last Respect meeting. As this is a blind worker's personal disability aid Respect will not be able to borrow it any more. Members of the steering group need to take minutes themselves. Steve can pass these on to Jenny at the Park Centre for typing and distribution.

6. Date of next meeting

7.30pm, Wednesday 7th February, Wicklea. Agenda to be set at meeting.

David W and Theresa will now be responsible for opening and locking Wicklea. Heather to check availability of the community development office with Matt and give her key to them if OK to continue using it.
