1. Minutes of the last meeting
These were agreed with the no matters arising.
2. Finance
It is proving difficult to access continuation funding for projects. Funders resist this preferring to support new projects instead. It may prove wiser to fold projects when funding runs out and start new projects doing similar work under a different name.
BCP has decided to create a funding group to co-ordinate and develop applications from the partnership for present and future projects. This group will also do the form-filling!
It may be possible to make an application for PAYP (Positive Activities for Young People) funds as some money is still available from this source.
A YOF (Youth Opportunities Fund) application may also be possible.
Young Bristol has much experience in accessing funds for youth work. SP to write a letter to Trevor Jones to ask whether 1) he’s considered applying for continuation funding for the detached workers and 2) for suggestions concerning an appropriate strategy for doing so.
Respect should approach the Police regarding suggestions for the funding of youth projects.
3. Projects
Football Project
The football project continues. The Bedminster based Malago football project leads the way in this field and many similar projects follow that lead. Currently the Malago group has formed a team with the intention of entering competitions.
Skateboard Project
18yp (sometimes as many as 25 turn up) have been turning up at the skate project, some from further afield (Bedminster). Equipment should come next month, it's a shame that the money for this can't be spent on other things as some free equipment is coming by way of donation. We have recruited a volunteer helper for the project from the St Andrews area. Some very minor damage is occurring in the course of the activity. The Skate group may charge a nominal fee when project becomes members only as this often leads to the activity being more highly valued by the participants. The project team is looking at various options for publicity.
The project has received a nomination for a community award (identity unknown), hopefully more news to follow.
The steering group has asked the Youth Workers to provide a report evidencing the impact of the detached work and skate project and will ask the police for the same. This will help in publicity and as supporting evidence for funding applications.
4. Street Based Workers
A number of reports were made available at the meeting. November and December have been very quiet due to the poor weather.
5. Wicklea
Young Bristol has no news yet regarding the success of its attempt to make the second round of the lottery-funding bid.
There is a Wicklea users group meeting on 28th January at 7.00 pm.
6. Counter-Terrorism/Community Intel
No report.
7. Any Other Business
None
8. Date of next meeting
7.30pm, Wednesday 6th February 2008, Wicklea.
