1. Minutes of last meeting

These were agreed with one matter arising:
Dave Webb would like minutes by post in future, please

Steve Pearce to produce Agenda for future meetings

2. Finance

3. Heather Pollard

Heather announced that this would be the last respect Project meeting that she would be attending. Her supervisor has taken the view that respect is not a Community Development initiative, it should fall under the umbrella of Young Peoples Services. It is not known whether or not YPS are aware of this change of circumstance.

Jenny Jones will continue to provide admin support to BCP & Respect.

Thanks to Heather for all her hard work in the past. We will keep her posted with minutes of the project.

David Waters will investigate ComDev/YPS situation with A McGrath & I Quaife

4. Projects

Football Project

The soccer skills project is now at risk as spare funding available for this project is almost exhausted. We were unsuccessful in our application for funding from the Quartet "Mall Fountain Fund", we await news of an application to Quartet Express Fund and we will not hear anything from Sport-Aid until May at the earliest.

5. Street Based Workers

Skateboard Project. The funding application for this will now rollover to the May funding round due to timing constraints of the application and the start of the new financial year.

The proposed trip to Brighton to "recce" a skateboard project there is too expensive. Kay & Tim would like to take YP to the cinema as a "thankyou" for filling out the Youth Opportunities Fund & Youth Capital Fund applications.

DP has been providing training and support to Tim & Kay on an ongoing basis.

Kay and Tim report that they have been able to engage effectively with many YP detached from mainstream youth provision. Kay reported an occasion of giving advice regarding the inadvisability of carrying a knife for self-protection. The knife is no longer being carried.

YP also appear to be reporting/repeating expressions of racism—possibly repeated from older generations. Tim and Kay regularly challenge this behaviour.

6. Future of Wicklea

All 4 councillors in the two Brislington wards are fully signed-up to the community's efforts to secure the future of youth & community provision at Wicklea. It is hoped that Young Bristol will be able to secure a 25 year lease. The opposition of the community to certain land-use/planning issues surrounding development at the rear of Wicklea and the building of a new road to access any such development has been made clear to BCC officers.

David Waters is presenting our case to full Council on 27th March.

7. Exclusion Area

Youth work is being carried out, but effectiveness is not known - no report.

8. Co-ordination of Youth Groups

There has been no response to the canvassing of other youth groups in the Brislington area but we can't be sure that the addresses we have are up-to-date.

Suggestions to help foster links between groups include a Youth Fair and a Youth Workers social night.

9. Date of next meeting

7.30pm, Wednesday 18th April, Wicklea.
