4. Projects

Football Project

The football project is going really well and is attracting young people from an older age range (upper teens).
Sally Carter would like to extend the sports offer to two nights per week and to make improvements to the sports court at the rear of Wicklea.
Zoe Holloway has submitted a funding application to the Youth Opportunities Fund to assist with the running of football & basketball activities.

Skateboard Project

Tim & Kay report that they have had communication confirming that the Youth Opportunities Fund & Youth Capital Fund applications have been successful. Amounts are not yet known.

Ann Stobbs has secured cash from BEC as interim funding for the project.

5. Street Based Workers

TN & KS have found a local contact that may be able to assist with running a graffiti project, perhaps relating to racism.
TN & KS have been encouraging YP to join in a "kick-about" or game of basketball at the start of their Friday patrol to the rear of Wicklea.
Possible ideas for the future:
A summer barbecue event
A road-safety/scooter maintenance workshop (Saturdays?).

At some point in the near future we will need to access continuation revenue funding for Respect.

6. Future of Wicklea

SC reports:
Thursday night Karate club is very popular and frequented by large numbers. It has been decided to open Wicklea youth centre on two nights a week, Tues & Weds.

AYA bus will attend Eastwood Park on Weds eves (Emma Parker, Manager).

The Young women’s self-defence course has two more sessions to run and has been accredited to Bristol 1 level.

YPS road show at Wicklea on 20th June in association with BESP and Connexions.

BYCA bid for summer diversionary activities to include:
Kayaking/canoeing
caving
climbing
a survival day
and other activities at Wicklea.

BCC have instructed officers to commence discussions with Young Bristol on the basis of a 25yr lease (hand-over in November?). It now seems unlikely that there will be any redevelopment of the land at the rear of Wicklea.

YB wish to consult with YP and current user groups over future building works/modifications.

7. Dispersal Areas

The Dispersal area conditions ended at the end of April. The actions relating to the areas continue.
Police will be holding a knife-crime talk at Wicklea on 18th July at 8pm.
