1. Minutes of last meeting
Omitted to put in website address
2. Wicklea
YMCA still not taken over and still do not have a definite date. There will be a fixed day when BCC stop paying bills and the YMCA start paying the bills and users stop paying BCC and commence payment to the YMCA. There will be conversations with each group regarding use of the building. The YMCA will want to work with the groups to see if they can expand, grow, change, or maybe help them meet their aspirations of what they are doing in the community. Make it a more pro-active community provision, rather than just a building. Discussions will also involve payment for hire of the building.
3. Local Network Fund
Nothing heard
Action : David Pendle to chase up.
4.Recruitment
18 enquiries and from that there were 6 applications.
Original date for interviews was last Friday, but this had to be cancelled and a new date of this Friday 6th October was arranged for interviews.
5 of the 6 applicants will be seen on this date. 1 of the applicants was unsuitable.
It is hoped after interviewing the candidates; the interview panel (David Pendle, Dave Webb, Tracey Wivel) hope to be able to offer three candidates a position. Letters will be sent directly to members of Respect announcing who has been appointed. All should be able to start within a week of appointment.
Pleased with the response to the most recent advertisement, as prior interest was disappointing.
If all 3 workers are available, they will go out at the same time. This may give the opportunity for one of the three to work with a particular couple of young people or a specific project. However, if only two are available the two will be able to go out and this will give a continuity of service. A proper induction will be arranged and this will be discussed then. As they may not know the area, other youth workers could go with them. Dave Walker went with them last time, but he is no longer available and they will need to contact the police to find out who is his replacement as Beat Officer.
David Webb and Tracey Wivel arrived at this point in the meeting and David Pendle went over the recruitment details again for their benefit, checked they would be available to meet the candidates on Friday commencing 3.30pm. It is anticipated the last interview will be at 7pm and a decision should be made after the last interview.
The validation of police checks was discussed and providing they are not more than six months old, these will be acceptable.
It was discussed they would like to employ at least one male and one female, not all males or all females.
5.Finance
No change from last time.
No outstanding to date.
Two advertising bills to be invoiced, for recruitment.
There is enough money to fund the street work team for at least a year .
6. YPS Funding
Meeting was never set up to include Respect.
The application going in the name of SCYP indirectly includes Respect. A coordinator will be appointed who will be of benefit to Respect and other youth bodies in the area.
The application from YMCA is related to Wicklea but doesn’t include funding for additional street work. However, it does include funding for additional activities at Wicklea which the street-workers could take on if they wished.
YMCA has applied for funding for a full time youth worker who will manage all youth work in Wicklea.
7. BYCA Funding
None at the moment. Next application will be for February half term 2007.
Charitable Status.
David Waters expects to have a redraft of the BCP Constitution sometime this week or next week. The original wasn’t worded for a charitable status and the new document will need to be a Memorandum and Articles of Association for the BCP to become a company limited by guarantee.
The AGM will be moved to February to allow time for this to be written.
Members of the BCP had a meeting recently with the local councillors and BCC Community Development managers where they were assured some continued support from Community Development Workers and admin staff, even if they do not continue to be based at Wicklea.
Youth Forum
To be a major agenda item for next meeting. Street-based team may also have ideas for developing this.
8. Date of next meeting
7.30 pm, Wednesday 1st November, Wicklea.
