1. Minutes of the last meeting
These were agreed with the following matter arising.
Concern was expressed that a Karate club booking for Wicklea was mentioned in the minutes. This could clash with a Respect skate booking. KS &TN were not present at Sept Respect meeting, so were unable to query this at the time. Can we check future bookings for similar clashes. SP to ring Sally Carter to check status.
2. Finance
Agreed
3. Projects
Football Project
No report.
Skateboard Project
Interest in the skateboard project has been running at very high levels, considering that it is not yet being actively promoted or advertised. Some equipment is in place and more is to come, some simple modifications are proposed to protect the walls in the sports hall. The project workers may set up a "Myspace" for Brislington Skate Project. Graffiti input to the design of ramps etc is a possibility as ramps make an excellent canvas for artwork. We may try to attract community artist involvement for this.
Some commercial input has been attracted to help with the project. Shiner (a local company) has been providing some DVDs and magazines, also boards at cost prices.
After all equipment has been delivered (6weeks) it is proposed to have a funday to launch the project to the community and then maybe launch a skateboarding club (members only?)
.
4. Street Based Workers
The street workers continue to work/tour the area every Friday evening and have changed the route they take to reflect the movements of YP they find.
The new route: St Annes Park, Broomhill, Eastwood, Victory Park, Brislington Square, Hollywood Rd, Sandy Park and Arnos Vale Park if time permits.
Kay & Tim have been in post for almost a year, now.
5. Wicklea
Early draft architects plans were available at the meeting.
There is now no requirement from BCC for a roadway to the rear of the building.
There has been little progress on the legal negotiations but Young Bristol can apply for an extended lease, and will be asking for this.
In search of funding, YB will be applying to the "transfer of assets fund" by the 19th November at the latest and should know by the end of March if successful with then a further 6 months to work up a full application.
YB will make an application of approx. 250k. The building is generally in good order. As yet there is no date for YB take-over and YB preference is to have the funding in place before signing.
6. Counter-Terrorism
Nothing to report.
7. Any Other Business
TJ of Young Bristol will meet with user groups on 31st October to discuss plans for Wicklea.
7. Date of next meeting
7.30pm, Wednesday 7th November, Wicklea.
