1. Minutes of the last meeting

These were agreed with the following matters arising:

Charitable status: The Brislington Partnership have drafted their governing documents and passed them to BCC lawyers for checking. The Charities Act has now been passed which includes proposals for a new form of legal structure for charities - it may be better to wait until these are implemented rather than register with Companies House.

Football project: Steve Pearce has put in an application to the Foundation for Sport and the Arts. The current workers are not from Young Bristol but are independent.

2. Wicklea Update

Young Bristol are interested in taking over the management of Wicklea and are having talks about this with BCC Young Peoples Services. All agreed that it is important that Wicklea remain accessible for community as well as youth activities.

The Community Development Unit is moving out of their office on Jan 9th. Heather and Fliss are going to York Court in St Pauls, Lynn, Jenny and Abdi to the Park Centre in Knowle. The Respect steering group expressed sadness that there will no longer be a local community development office for this area.

3. Finance

After the costs of employing the street-based workers, there will not be enough money to pay for the detached team and the football project for a year - therefore the decision taken last meeting to fund the football was rescinded.

4. Street Based Workers

Kay and Tim, the new street-based workers were appointed this month and have started on the walkabouts. They are also having some training with David. Young Bristol are handing the employment at the same cost as the YMCA. Thanks to Young Bristol for stepping into this role so quickly.

5. Projects

Football: there was a discussion re other sources of funding for this project. Steve has another Trust to apply to if the Foundation for Sport and the Arts is unsuccessful. Ann to talk to colleagues at BEC to see if they can contribute anything as part of the Extended Schools initiative. Community Learning Action Group to be approached to see if this could be funded as training for people to become football coaches with the YP indirectly benefiting. John to approach contacts within Brislington football club for possible sponsorship.

6. Youth Forum

The Brislington Website has now been updated to include a forum for local residents with a special section for young people. Agreed to see how this develops before moving forwards with the Youth Forum idea – also good to get street-based workers to talk with YP about how to develop this. Everyone encouraged to register as a forum member - go to BCP and click on the link. Go on! Its easy!

7. Any Other Business

Ann is now the Extended School's Partnership manager for the Brislington area.

Local people wishing to volunteer at Wicklea Youth club need to contact Judith Davis in Young Peoples Services for an application pack on 353 2277 or Judith Davis. They will need to have a Criminal Records Bureau check and a health check done before they can volunteer. Those with more experience can be paid as casual youth workers. It would be great to have more people registered as then the club could open more. Respect also welcomes local residents to join this steering group.

8. Date of next meeting

7.30 pm, Wednesday 3rd January, Wicklea.
