Respect

Respect for Brislington & St Anne's

The RESPECT Project was formed following consultations with local people about the need to increase facilities for young people in Brislington and St Anne's, and to increase communication between people of different age groups.

Respect has been given Regeneration funding to put on some new projects at Wicklea and there are now two detached youth workers who will be out and about on the streets of Brislington, Broomhill and St Anne's each Friday night. They are keen to make contact with young people hanging out in these areas and to develop projects with them.

The first project at Wicklea was series of R'n'B/hip hop dance classes. This was replaced by trampolining sessions, every Tuesday evening at 8-9.30pm (not half term) for ages 12-19, working towards badges and certificates. Sportswear and socks must be worn.

Other projects being considered include DJing workshops, IT classes, parenting skills, trips and wider community events.

The Project meets at 7.30 pm on the first Wednesday of each month at Wicklea Youth Centre in Brislington. It is a partnership made up of Bristol City Council Regeneration and Young Peoples' Services staff, local residents and young people, members of voluntary organisations and youth clubs and the local police.

Respect meetings are open to anyone living or working in Brislington and St Anne's and we would especially welcome young members of the community who want to get involved and have their say in how young peoples' facilities are being developed. If you know of anyone living locally who may be interested in getting involved, please pass this information on to them.
