Brislington Community Museum

This museum is closing

It has been a great pleasure to share in and showcase Brislington's heritage, and our thanks are extended to all have contributed exhibits, information, questions and enthusiasm over the years.

In the scheme of things, the museum has only been around for a short time - half a decade - but a good deal has been achieved (the newsletters are testament to this). In particular, the exhibiting of hundreds of photographic postcards showing Brislington as it was more than a century ago, has been an inspiring collaborative success (this project is ringfenced - it will run its course and be completed before we close).

There are, naturally, regrets about more that could have been done but, by stepping aside in an orderly fashion, we do at least provide space for others to step in and have a go. For the committee though - which has served unchanged since the museum's inauguration - the decision taken at a special meeting on 14 April 2026 to wind up before the end of the year was, unanimously if sadly, taken as the best way forward.

In the meantime, our newsletter will continue to publish such exhibits as may be included (all copies of which are archived at the British Library). Happily, this final phase will see our efforts culminate at a high point of productivity and engagement with the community - producing a legacy of lasting value.
