The picture published in this postcard was photographed by William Albert Winchester, and titled "A Peep at Brisligton." The panorama looks to the southeast toward School Road (the school has steeply rising gables, slightly above and left of centre, and is now mostly demolished). The footpath in the foreground of this open field has become Sherwell Road.
The sign painted on the end of the building reads "1ST. VOL. BATTN. P. A. SOM. L. I. DRILL HALL." where the abbreviations stand for volunteers of the 1st Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert's). This postcard was printed before 3 June 1918, using the collotype method.
