Behind the single-arched humpback bridge over Brislington Brook are a couple of outbuilding and then the roof of Woodbridge House. Although not clearly seen in this picture, just in front of the outbuildings we can see white-painted barriers curving around to the left. Between these and the wall is the entrance to Water Lane, which runs beside the brook (and was occasionally inundated by it, hence its name). This entrance to Water Lane is still accessible, but the lane is no longer in use. The other end of this thoroughfare still exists, and continues to be called Water Lane (it joins the A4 Bath Road at the top of Bristol Hill).

This photograph is believed to have been taken by Fred Viner, and the postcard published by York Publishing Company, Bristol. The front carries the title "West Town Bridge, Brislington." and the reference number "1218". See our notes for more information about this photographer and postcard publisher, and their work in Brislington. Earliest known picture: 22 July 1921.
