In this photograph we see soldiers marching along Langton Court Road, with the Langton Court Hotel to the left. They each bear their rifle in the 'reversed arms' position (the weapon is held under the arm with the barrel pointing to the ground behind them) which is customary for a funeral. There's at least one musician in their ranks, carrying what appears to be a tuba. Several horse-drawn carriages bring up the rear, with each of their drivers wearing a top hat.
The photograph was taken by William Albert Winchester. Visit our notes for more information about this photographer and postcard publisher, and their work in Brislington.
