This picture is credited to photographer and postcard publisher Fred Little. Its title is 'Arno's Castle, Bristol. The Inner Courtyard.' Printed as a postcard, this photograph was taken from the arch of the main entrance to the building, and shows a flowerbed where the well is situated today. The credit on the back of the postcard reads 'Little & Barber, buyers of Old English Furniture and Works of Art.'
This building is rather better known nowadays as the Black Castle public house at St Phillips Causeway, and is an 18th century Grade 1 listed building. Earliest known picture: printed before 3 June 1918.
