This picture is credited to photographer and postcard publisher Fred Little. Its title is 'Arno's Castle, Bristol. Entrance to Castle Grounds.' Printed as a postcard, this shows a view that is lost to us today - an arch with a footpath through a garden with flower beds along the path, approaching the main buildings. The credit on the back of the postcard reads 'Little & Barber, buyers of Old English Furniture and Works of Art.'

This building is rather better known nowadays as the Black Castle public house at St Phillips Causeway, and is an 18th century Grade 1 listed building. Earliest known picture: printed before 3 June 1918.

Visit our notes for more information about this photographer and the postcard publisher, and their work in Brislington.
